So all of us in 'the industry' believes that anything is possible in the world of internet. Is it really true?
Perhaps it's safe to say the possibilities seem to be endless, compared with other industries.
I googled some stats - it is said that 17.8% of the world population now use internet. Pretty amazing penetration. And of course it's growing at an amazing rate of something like a few 100s percent per year. Naturally some of us believe that one day just about anyone will be able to use and make the most out of it.
I am a skeptic, however, when it comes to everyone using internet 'idea.'
That leads to the very reason why I started this weblog when I am writing one in my native language - Japanese.
It is true that people do benefit from internet. I myself can easily say that. But there exists the question of how well we can utilize internet. In other words, how much benefit one can get from using internet differs greatly among us.
A typical blogger is:
1: Someone who likes to write. More importantly, someone who is capable of writing and expressing oneself.
2: Someone who likes to read. Someone capable of reading.
That sets a big limitation among 6 billion population of the world.
And also the big issue of language boundaries. I started this blog to polish my rusty English, so that I might once again proudly say "I'm going global" Mmm.... Speaking Japanese is definitely not good enough to be a 'world citizen' in the world of internet. Japan is more advanced than most countries in terms of internet penetration - I'm a bit relieved - but what if I spoke only some minor language in a very small ignored country?
The boundaries - in my opinion - may be growing bigger. The gap between those who have and those who don't must be put into light. As is often the case, English-speaking world has quite a big advantage here. Not only the language, but also there are issues surrounding 'urban' and 'rural' differences in internet penetration and usage.
Well - so what I intend to do as a business owner is to:
"GOING LOCAL" and "BRIDGING THE LANGUAGE BOUNDARIES"
That's what my company, Howdys, Inc. is trying to do.
